Sunset Beach to Third Beach to Granville Island and return...

On July 03, 2005, Barbie and I set out for a short morning paddle. We launched at Sunset Beach in the West End of Vancouver and headed towards Stanley Park. Once we'd reached Third Beach, we retraced our journey and made for False Creek, under the Burrard and Granville bridges. We had the kayak back on the roofrack by about 11:40.

Launching at Sunset Beach

It's 9:30 AM, and Barbie and I have launched from Sunset Beach.

Bard on the Beach

Across from Sunset Beach, the tents are set up for the annual "Bard on the Beach" Shakespeare productions.

Peculiarities of the camera lens

The peculiarities of the camera lens OR Vancouver has a building to rival Pisa's leaning tower. I'd swear the the horizon is just that; horizontal!

Heron on the rocks ahead...

There are plenty of heron on the rocks ahead.

The seagull will...

If the heron won't sit still for a photo, at least the seagull will -- Nice picture Barbie! Stanley Park Seawall beyond the rocks.

WHOOPS!

We try to get close to this flock? colony? whatever? bunch of heron and then the rudder starts clacking on the rocks and the paddles touch the ground -- WHOOPS!

A heron in flight...

Can you count the heron?

Can you count the heron? You could if I had a zoom lens. Let's say about seven (at least!).

Oh, to have a zoom...

Oh, to have a zoom: I've never seen so many heron (what's the plural of heron? Heron or herons?) in one spot (just off Second Beach in Stanley Park).

We are just about upon Third Beach, and Siwash Rock can be seen in the distance (wish I had a zoom). 

Having turned about, we now have the Vancouver skyline in front of us.

Having passed Sunset Beach, we are now about to proceed under the Burard Street Bridge

Granville Island Market. 

Having passed under the Burrard Bridge, we now head for Granville Bridge and the Granville Island Market. 

As we turn about, we head, momentarily, towards a collection of houseboats and the Emily Carr Art Institute.
